Edward Lewis, son of Osa Vean Jones and Elton Walls, was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi, on March 30, 1946, and was affectionately known as "Scoonie." His parents both preceded him death.
Scoonie accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age, was baptized and became a member of New Hope M.B. Church in Oxford, Mississippi, where he remained a faithful member until his death. Scoonie was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1966. On December 23, 1968, he was united in matrimony to Bernice Young and to this union, four children were born.
Scoonie was president of the Knight Riders Motorcycle club and was an avid biker. He worked as a logger and began his logging career at an early age and logged in many communities over 50 years before he decided to enjoy retirement. Even in his retirement years he enjoyed planting his vegetable garden, working in the yard, raising horses, videoing and making people smile. He never met a stranger. Everyone he met, he greeted them with the same wonderful, warm hearted greeting. Scoonie was a true and dedicated care taker. He made a commitment to care for his baby, Vanessa, and was dedicated to caring for her until God called him home. He was truly a patient servant.
On Saturday, May 25th, 2019, while in his home, he quietly slipped away to be at rest. Scoonie was preceded in death also by two brothers: Thomas Lewis and Bennie Ray (Chiquita) Walls. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife: Bernice Lewis of Abbeville MS; five children: Jimmy Payne of Oxford MS; Vanessa Lewis, Jody (Elaina) Lewis, an Kirklon (Mitred) Lewis, all of Abbeville MS and Latavia (Anel) Clairsaint of Atlanta GA; his siblings: L.
