R. J. Buford

R. J. Buford, son of the late Lucinda "Babysister" Buford and James "Duffie" McGhee, was born in Abbeville, Mississsipp, June 24, 1952. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Springfield M.B.Church in Abbeville MS where he remained a member until death.

R. J. received his education in the Lafayette County School District. He was married to Laura Ann Wicks-Buford for 30 years. He began working as a young man to provide for himself, and later, his family. He worked at Emerson Electric for 32 years and after the closing of the Oxford, Emerson Electric Company, R. J. gained employment at Winchester Ammunition and worked there until his health began to fail.

In his healthy days, you could often find R.J. doing what he loved to do in his spare time. And that was hunt, fish, play cards, and most of all. love and enjoy his family. After a several years of failing health, the Lord saw fit to let him rest. On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, he went home to be with the Lord. R. J. is preceded in death by his parents; one son: Anthony Redean Mayes; four siblings: Jessie James Buford, Ruby Buford, Ronald Swinney, and Robbie "Chic" Buford.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife: Laura Ann Wicks-Buford, tow daughters: Vendella (Brian) Crockette and De'Eldra Wicks; one son: De'Roderick Wicks; siblings: Ruth Buford, Shelia Kay (Gerald) Bowdry, James Buford, Jeff Archie, Tracy (Edward) Lewis, Edna Williams, Shirley (Billy) Hutchins, Candy Smith, Janis Brooks, Timothy (Jackie) Harden, Dirk McGhee, Richard (Cynthia) Burnett, Patricia Dunn, Ricky (Sherry) McGhee, Ronnie (Margaret) Burnett, Stephanie (Mario) Wilborn, Karen McGhee, and Chris (Camila) Buford, One grand son: De'Allerick Wicks: six grand daughters: Ashley Buford, Octavia Mayes, Jessie"Ka Lee, Je'Lissa Lee, So'Nia Ealey and Ja'Kia Ealey, He also leaves one aunt Cynthia McGhee and one uncle Chester Buford and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
