Sarah Reese Redmond, daughter of the late Oscar and Kate Mullins Ruffin, was born in Lafayette County, MS, on June 12, 1934. She confessed and accepted Christ as her Savior and joined West Springhill MB Church. Sarah received her early education in Oxford graduating from Oxford Training School in 1954. She went on to received a master's degree in Education from Jackson State College (now Jackson State University). Sarah was a mother, grandmother, educator, community activist, church worker and friend. She labored long putting in many years with children in the school system and the Oxford Park Commission's (Stone Park) summer program, helping to form their future. But, Sarah was an educator by profession and taught school for many years in Quitman County, MS and Oxford MS before retiring and becoming a foster grandparent for North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford MS.
On Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Calhoun City. MS, surrounded with love, Sarah went home to be with the Lord.
She's lovingly remembered by her children: Carlos (Shirley) Reese of Fresno CA, Danny Reese of Seattle WA, Ansara K. Reese of McDonough GA and Dwanh (Tevious) Redmond of Cardova TN; her three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her sister: Rosette Pegues of Oxford MS and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sarah was preceded in death several siblings, David Ruffin, James Ruffin, George Ruffin, Joel Ruffin and Charles Ruffin and Ora Lee Porter; and a grandson: Roderick Armstrong.
