Shirley Fox Obituary

Shirley Simmons-Fox was born April 15, 1949 to Matthew Simmons and the late Rossie Fondren-Simmons in Oxford, MS.

"Faye," as she was affectionately called, professed her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church until her death. Within the church, she served as the youth director, vacation bible school coordinator, and church secretary. She was the author of the church's poem, "Church on the Hill," which was inspired by Clear Creek and its members.

She received her education from Oxford city schools and graduated from Central High School in 1968. Shirley was a private care giver for families in the Oxford area for the past 15 years.

When she wasn't spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, she enjoyed writing, reading, playing mystery games, and watching crime shows.

On Friday, August 10, 2018, Shirley departed her early life to be with her Heavenly Father. She leaves to cherish her memories; two sons, Shawn (Erica) Avent and Kevin Braziel of Oxford, MS, two grandchildren, Aubrey and Jordyn Avent of Oxford, MS, three brothers, Matt (Rita) Simmons and Henry (Hattie) Simmons of Oxford, MS and Larry (Lynette) Simmons of Memphis, TN, one sister, Leroni (Robert) Jones of St. Louis, MO, a special nephew whom she considered as a son, Thomas Fox of Oxford, MS, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
