Abigail Carothers Pegues, daughter of Francis Carothers and the late Mossie Lynn Carothers, and wife of Mark Pegues, was born May 20, 1972 in Oxford Mississippi. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Sandy Springs C.M.E. Church and later her family united with Mt. Hope M.B. Church. As an adult, Abigail chose to make Springfield M.B. Church her home and she remained a member there until she was called home.
Abigail received her formal education in the Oxford School District and further her education by receiving an associates degree from Northwest Community College. In 1994, she married the man of her dreams. The love of her life, Mark Pegues, and they were blessed with three awesome sons. Abigail was truly help mate, after other jobs, she gained employment at GE Aviation in Batesville, Mississippi. Abigail loved family time and spending precious moments with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping, yard sales, going out to eat, and believe it or not, she enjoyed working.
If you ever saw a strong and courageous face, it was the face of Abigail Pegues. But after a long brave fight with cancer, I can see hear her singing this Ben E. King song as she's looking into Mark's eyes, "I won't be afraid just as long as you stand, stand by me." And he did just that. Til death do us part. She wasn't afraid to go because she knew that not only was Jesus with her and waiting on her, but her family was by her side. And on Saturday, just before Easter, April 11, 2020, Abigail said, "It's a beautiful day and I'm going home." And she drifted peacefully away to be at rest.
Abigail is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Mark Pegues of Oxford MS; her sons: Demarius Pegues and Demarcus Pegues both of Olive Branch MS, Mark Pegues, Jr. of Oxford MS and her step-son: Aaron Gains of Los Angeles CA; her sisters: Brenda Carothers and Shannon Hodges both of Oxford MS; her brothers: Patrick Hodges and Marlon Hodges both of Oxford MS; her four grandchildren; her mother: Frances Carothers of Oxford MS; her grandmother: Earlene Gillard of Oxford MS; her father and mother-n-law, Herman and Beatrice Pegues of Oxford MS;
