Altha "Jackie" Vaughn Obituary

Mrs. Altha Mae "Jackie" Vaughn, also affectionately known as "Granny, G-Ma and Mama Jackie," was born March 26, 1939 to the late Ben and Susie Wadlington in Alwood, MS. She was the youngest of 9 children, She confessed her belief in jesus Christ at a young age and joined Harrisonville M.B. Church. She later moved her membership to Clear Creek M.B. Church in Oxford, MS, where she faithfully remained until her demise. Altha Mae received her education from Burt School, West Springhill School and Taylor School finishing the 10th grade.  She was united in holy matrimony to the late Charles Eddie Vaughn, Jr., formally known as "Charlie Jr," on October 31, 1959 and to this union they shared the blessings of ten children.

Altha Mae was employed as a Housekeeper for the Alpha Delta Chapter of Phi Mu  for over 30 years. She  was  a member of the Heroines of Jericho Court #95 of Taylor, MS. Altha Mae had a deep love for tending to her flowers, fishing, curling and pressing hair as a part-time in home beautician, cooking and baking. She never missed a Sunday without cooking "Sunday Dinner." For those who knew her,  knew that she would never allow you to leave her home empty handed. She was a giving person and enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone.

On February 28, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North, MS, Altha Mae traded her earthly life for eternal life with her Savior. She will be missed by those who loved her most.

She leaves a legacy of memories to cherish with her daughters; Vivian Brown, Carolyn Hilliard and Kimiranda Vaughn all of Oxford, MS,  Melanie (Ronnie) Wilson of Horn Lake, MS, Vonetta Vaughn and Teretta Vaughn both of Dallas, TX, sons; Calvin (Pamela) Vaughn of Jackson, MS and Fernanda (Cassandra) Vaughn of Oxford, MS, step-son; Rodney (Carla) Baskin of Oxford, MS, sister-in-law; Ina Mae Wadlington of Oxford, MS, 23 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchidren and 9 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Ben and Susie Wadlington, daughther; Monica Vaughn, son; Edward Earl Vaughn, sisters; Inez Bibbs Wadlington, Allie Mae Holman, Nora Dell Holman-Norphlet, Louise Armstrong, brothers; Bennie "Butler" Wadlington, Dempsy Wadlington, Levan Wadlington, Ira B. Wadlington, and grandsons; Sharod Vaughn and Malachi Vaughn.
