Arebedella was born June 23, 1964 in Oxford, MS to the late Lois and Sallie Mayes. At an early age Arebedella accepted Christ and joined West St. Peter UM. Church in Oxford, Mississippi. She later united with the Philadelphia M.B.Church after her marriage to Dana McJunkins and she remained a faithful member there until her death. Her marriage to Dana was blessed with two children, Kendrick and KoKola. Dana preceded her in death.
Arebedella was a graduate of Lafayette High School class of 1982. She began her employment with Emerson Electric and remained employed there until the facility closed. Afterwards, she gained employment with Walmart in Oxford, MS in the garden center. Arebedella truly loved flowers. In addition to working at Walmart, she was the owner/operator of Della's Bridal as an event coordinator and consulting business, where she worked jointly with her niece, Shay. Although it was very small operation, she was extremely proud of her business and enjoyed watching it grow. Arebedella was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Most importantly, she loved her church and she loved the Lord.
On Sunday morning June 2, 2024 at her home, Arebedella received her wings and ascended to her heavenly home.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her two children: Kendrick Mayes of Starkville MS and KoKola Foote (Justin) of New Albany MS; Her sisters: Sallie Liggins, Hazel Campbell (Willie B), and Betty Buford all of Oxford, MS; her brothers: Wade Luster Mayes, Zannie Mayes, Joe Gene Mayes (Queen), and Jessie James Mayes all of Oxford, MS and Sylvester Mayes of Dallas, TX; three beautiful granddaughters: True Grace Foote, Cammie Foote, and Caris Foote. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Arebedella was preceded in death by five brothers: Rev. Andrew Mayes, Webster Mayes, Arthur Lee Mayes, Willie J. Mayes and Walter Earl Mayes.
