Barbara Carr, the daughter of Essie Lee Smith Archie and Frank Archie was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi on March 10, 1949.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford MS. Barbara graduated from Central High School in Oxford, MS and pursued a higher education at Jackson State College (University) in Jackson MS. It was there that she met her future husband, Jimmy Carr, Sr. The two were united in holy matrimony and to this union, their son Jimmy Jr. was born.
The family resided in Tupelo, MS, where they were active members of Rising Star Baptist Church. Barbara became a member of the Adult Choir, illustrating her deep love of serving in the music ministry. She taught at Bissel Pre-K School in Tupelo, MS. She enjoyed singing, traveling and spending time with her family.
After moving to Oxford MS, Barbara returned to Second Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. She also decided to attend cosmetology school where, upon completion, she succeeded in opening her own salon named Studio A Hair Salon. Barbara worked at the salon until she retired.
Barbara was preceded in death by: Jimmy Carr, Sr.; parents, Essie Lee and Frank Archie; sister, Bettie A. (Roy) Goss; sisters-in-law, Ruthy Long and Lennette Ivy (also her best friend). Those left to cherish her memory are: son: Jimmy (Tanisha) Carr Jr.; grandsons: Jimmy Carr III, Harrison Bracey Carr and Evan Daniel Carr, all of Raymond MS; sister: Joyce Archie; brothers: Frank “Butch” (Lutricia) Archie, Willie A. Archie and James Ivy Jr., all of Oxford, MS; brother-in-law: Rev. Gary Long Sr.; sisters-in-law: Delois Hamilton, Claudia Howard and Edna Gardner all of Tupelo MS; aunts: Leona “Sally” (Chester) Starks and Beatrice (Herman) Pegues, both of Oxford MS; niece (who Barbara raised), Santerrica Archie; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
