Bertha Lucille Sanders-Coleman

Bertha (Candy) Sanders Coleman, the youngest of four children, was born in Lafayette County, MS on July 20th to the late Charles and Bertha Nicholson.

Bertha received her education from Central High School and was voted Homecoming Queen during her sophomore year. She graduated in 1971. Bertha was a beautiful person both inside and out. She had the most amazing heart and was always concerned about others. She would always say be kind and forgiving because that is what Jehovah would want us to do.  

Bertha was united in matrimony to Marvin Sanders and to this union two children were born, Teasha and Marcus. In 1980, the family left Oxford and moved to California. It was there that she was given the nickname “Candy.” Her friends said she did not look like a ‘Bertha’ and needed a name that was as sweet as she was. She retired from McDonnell Douglas-Boeing Aircraft in Long Beach, CA. She loved California and was always hoping to go back to live one day.

In 1997, Bertha and Jerome Coleman were united in matrimony.

She was a people person and had the most outgoing and upbeat personality. She loved to take care of her plants and flowers in her garden, design clothes and she loved fashion. She was always thoughtful and giving. She could talk to anyone and she loved to share the hope that Jehovah promised for mankind and faithfully served Jehovah for over 40 years. 

On Friday, May 28th she fell asleep in death at her home surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Jerome Coleman of Oxford, MS; children, Teasha Sanders Smith (Tony) of Oxford, MS and Marcus Sanders (Lorena) of Irvine, CA; grandchildren Brooklyn and Aliyah, sister Charlene Miller (Ted) in Oxford, MS and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha Nicholson and both of her brothers, Larry and Charles Nicholson.
