Birdie Johnson Obituary

Mother Birdie Sue Delbridge Johnson, daughter of the late Samuel "Sam" Delbridge and Maggie Mae "Mittie" Williams Delbridge, was born on February 23, 1948, in Abbeville MS. Birdie heard the gospel and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop F. M. Dawson, in Abbeville, Mississippi. She was a member of True Bibleway Church in Abbeville, Mississippi, where she served as an usher, sang in the choir, and looked forward to attending church service, praising God and fellowshipping with the Saints, and she served faithfully, until her health failed.

Birdie received her early education in the Lafayette County School district at Gordon Elementary School and her high school education in the Oxford City School district at Central High School. She was united in matrimony to Peter Johnson and to this union, four children were born. Peter, preceded her in death. Birdie was employed for 26 years at Emerson Electric Company as an assembly line worker. Reading the Word of God was a ritual for Birdie; she read it upon rising first thing in the morning, and throughout the day. The Word was indeed her strength. Birdie was small in stature, she was full of wisdom and knowledge. Her pastimes were cooking, baking, sewing, watching westerns, and cross word puzzles. Birdie was a loving mother, grandmother, and a child of God who also loved loving on her family and extended family.

Birdie leaves to cherish her loving memories, two sons: Asa Johnson of Olive Branch MS and Eric (Regina) Johnson of Abbeville MS; three daughters: Sherryln Walker of Byhalia MS, Tameka (Calvin) McGlown of Abbeville MS, and Trusan (Antonio) Eggerson of Killeen TX; two brothers: B.J.
