Callie Jane Brannon

Callie Jane Brannon was born March 29, 1925 in Abbeville, MS to the late Benjamin “Buster” and Caroline Davis Couch.

Callie professed her hope in Christ at an early age and united with Jeffrie Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother Board and remained a member until her death.

“Mrs. C.J.,” as she was affectionately called, worked for several establishments throughout the Oxford area. She touched the lives of many youth while working for the Oxford School District. Her employment journey also included working at North Mississippi Regional Center as a foster grandparent and finally retiring from the University of Mississippi (Alumni House).

In her spare time, Mrs. C.J. enjoyed fishing with her fishing partner, Loretta Onsby. She also enjoyed going to garage sales.

On Sunday, January 22, 2023, Callie peacefully answered her Master’s call, while surrounded by family. She will be missed by those who loved her most.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Mary Brannon, Joanne Brannon, Jerelene Coleman all of Abbeville, MS, Brenda Brannon of Nashville, TN, Andrew Malone, Robert Brannon of Oxford, MS, and Richard (Gloria) Brannon of Taylor, MS; 34 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; a host of great-great grandchildren; three special nieces, Mary Lee, Arnita, and Deborah all of Grand Rapids, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Callie was preceded in death by her parents; youngest son, Kenneth “Kenny” Brannon; and siblings, Lena Mae Couch, Etta Crawley, Rossie Lee Harden, Jennie Conaley, Artie Hunt, Mattie Bell Thompson, and John Richard Couch.
