Carrie Leland Obituary

Carrie Dell Leland, the sixth of ten children born to Margaret and the late James H. Leland, was born January 10, 1956 in Batesville, MS.

Dell (aka BaBay) was a member of Coleman Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she professed her love and belief in Christ at an early age. She loved working in the church and served diligently as a faithful choir member, Preacher Steward and a member of the finance committee.

She graduated with the Class of 1974 from South Panola High School and was gainfully employed as an extremely talented welder for 40 plus years at Parker Hannifin, where she later retired in 2018.

She loved to sing, dance, travel and spend time with her family. Holidays were her favorite. She was a loving, nurturing, caring soul, loved by all who truly knew her. Her grandchildren were the absolute love of her life.

Carrie passed away Friday, July 16th, 2021. She leaves to cherish her loving memory; her children, Tejuan Leland (Katina) of Covington, LA Kianna Leland Thompson (Twaun), of Batesville, MS; five grandchildren Yari, Selah, Rimi and Tsai Thompson, of Batesville MS, and Caleb Leland of Covington ,LA; mother, Margaret Leland, of Batesville MS; siblings, Mary Leland of Hayward, CA, Margaret Kaye Leland of Batesville, MS, Laurence Leland of Milwaukee, WI, Willie Leland (Levoria) of Mobile, AL, Johnny Leland and Fred Leland both of Chicago, IL , 1 brother-in- law, Jessie Johnson, also of Chicago, IL, along with a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her siblings, James L. Leland, Hattie Mae Johnson and Edward Leland preceded her in death.
