Carry Lynn Vaughn was born on February 11, 1954, in Oxford, Mississippi. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Avant and Josephine Vaughn.
Carry accepted Christ at an early age and joined Hammitt Hill United Methodist Church in Oxford and remained a member there until the merging of two churches (Hammitt Hill and Burns United Methodist) the churches then became known as, Oxford First United Methodist Church, where she remained an active member until her death.
Carry received her formal education in the Oxford School District and was a graduate of Oxford High School's Class of 1973. Prior to Carry's transition to Oxford High School, she attended Central High School where she was active in the Try-Hi-Y, which was a youth organization for girls, Future Homemakers of America (FHA), and the Dramatics Club.
Carry was the proud mother of a handsome son, named Cornelius Vaughn and was affectionately called "Nanny. and "Big Baby." She was a hostess with Hampton Inn (Jalaram Corporation) where she valued what she did and she did it well, providing stability for her son's future. Carry had a strong bond with her siblings, especially her sisters. You could always find them enjoying bonding time together. She loved the Lord and enjoyed going to church, singing in the choir, cooking, eating at Chow King, crab legs, watching WWF and spending time with her loving family and friends.
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, after a brief illness, the Lord saw fit to remove Carry Lynn Vaughn from this earthly life to eternal life, so she took his hand and went to be with the Lord. She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her son: Cornelius Vaughn of Oxford, MS; her three grandchildren: Brian and Alec Vaughn of Oxford, MS and Jeremi Woodall of Taylor, MS; her life partner: Willie "Billy" Burt of Oxford, MS; her sisters: Betty (James) Young, Janice (Kent) Brown, Sarah Crawford; Ruth Thompson, Mary Wesson and Regina Brassell, all of Oxford, MS and Brenda (Lamont) Barber of Olive Branch, MS; her brothers: Avant Vaughn, Jr. of Grenada, MS; Henry McKinley Vaughn of Oxford, MS and Dennis Booker of St. Louis. Please keep Carry's family lifted in prayer.
