Catherine Burgin Obituary

Catherine Burgin, born on March 3, 1946, to Sonny Wilson and Lillian Cobb in West Virginia. Catherine was raised in Columbus, MS, where she gave her life to Christ at an early age and became an active member of Sanders Chapel CME Church.

A proud graduate of the Robert E. Hunt High School Class of 1965 in Columbus, MS, Catherine married Louis Burgin Jr., and together they relocated to Long Beach, California, where he was stationed in the Navy.

In Long Beach, Catherine became the First Lady and one of the founding members of Community Christian Center Church, where her husband pastored until his passing in 1988. Catherine found great joy in her faith and was passionate about the ministry. She loved being at church, teaching Bible study and Sunday school, and, most importantly, directing the church choir, a role that brought her much fulfillment.0

She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith. Catherine’s warmth and devotion to her family, church, and community will be remembered by all who knew her.
