Charlene Gillard Redmond was born to the late Aaron Gillard and Earlene Gillard in Yalobusha County, Mississippi on July 28, 1953. Charlene excepted Christ at an early age at Bayson Chapel MB Church in Water Valley MS and she received her education in the Lafayette County School District.
Charlene moved to Waco, Texas where she married the love of her life, Artha Lee Redmond, and she loved herself some Artha Lee Redmond and she loved her church, her children, grandchildren, family and friends!!! She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
After Charlene moved, she attended Bethel Empowerment Church in Waco TX where she was on the usher board, kitchen committee, Mission treasurer and so many more things. Charlene moved back home to Oxford MS where she joined Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church on November 20, 2022. She was devoted member and loved the Lord with all her heart. She raised her children up in the church, instilling in them the never fading Holy word.
Charlene loved to cook some cakes, make banana pudding, go shopping, spend time with her children and most of all, love on her husband. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and then calling and telling her sister, Frances C. all about them. Charlene was employed at Durham Transportation and STS in Waco, TX where she worked 30+ serving children by taking them to and from school.
Charlene departed this life on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis TN. She is forever remembered by her loving mother: Earlene Gillard of Oxford MS; nine children: Cedric (Angela) Coleman of Memphis TN, Janice Norfleet of Oxford, MS, Tisha (Rodney) Dean of Oxford, MS, Tori (Antonio) Poindexter of Memphis, TN, Marcellus Redmond, Aquala Redmond, Kevin Redmond, Sha’Carol Redmond; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Frank (Olean) Gillard and Joe (Deonco) Gillard both of Oxford, MS; three sisters: Darlene (Hugh) Ivy, Frances Carothers, Rena (Johnny) Brown all of Oxford, MS; She also leaves three special nieces: Lasaha (Nolan) King of Dallas, TX, Ollaridria (Demarcus) Helm and Adrianna Gillard and one special nephew: Chauncey Brown of Dallas Texas. She also has an unforgettable host of nieces, nephews and some very spoiled and precious god children as well: Jeremy (Faith) Foster, Tiara Taylor, Eric Taylor, Thomas Chandler, Cici Shaw, Kiana Woodard and Valencia Lang.
Charlene was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 37 years: Artha Lee Redmond, her father: Aaron Gillard, three brothers: Earvin, Jimmy and Tommy Gillard, her niece: Abigail Pegues, and best-friend Vita Gillard,
