Charles Edward "Ray Candy" Brown

Charles Edward Brown was born on September 21, 1958 in Brookhaven, MS to the late Joe E. and Mae Bertha Campbell Brown. Charles joined East St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Abbeville, MS at an early age and remained a member there until his death. Charles received his education at the Oxford School District in Oxford, MS. Charles departed this life on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi surrounded by his loved ones.

“Ray Candy”, as he was affectionately called, made many friends around the Oxford-Lafayette County community throughout his life and charmed them with his friendly and outgoing personality. Although Charles had no biological children of his own, he often acted as a mentor and male figure to those who needed it most. Charles enjoyed fishing, cooking, doing yard work, helping others with various tasks, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys play football, and spending time with his family whom he so dearly cherished.

Left to cherish Charles’ memory are his only sibling, Joe Brown Jr. (Oxford, MS), nephews Kevin Brown (Dallas, TX) and Cedric Brown (Oxford, MS), great-nephew and “honorary son” Maison Ivy (Oxford, MS), and a host of other relatives, friends, and extended family.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents, and paternal grandparents. Charles was a light to many people that knew him and will be greatly missed
