Chester Buford was born on August 25, 1923, in Oxford, Mississippi, to the late Irene and Chester Buford. He peacefully departed this life on April 4, 2026, at the blessed age of 102, surrounded by his loving family.
Chester, at an early age, professed his faith in Christ. A belief that remained a guiding light throughout his life. His faith, strength and resilience carried him through many seasons, shaping him into a man deeply respected and dearly loved by all who knew him.
Chester's life was a testament to enduring faith, perseverance, and love. He witnessed generations grow, leaving behind a legacy rooted in wisdom, kindness, and devotion to family. His presence brought comfort, his words carried meaning, and his life reflected a journey well lived.
Though he transitioned from this earthly home, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. His legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire generations to come.
In 1940, he married the love of his life, Betty Frison, and together they were blessed with nine children. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a cherished grandfather.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Betty (Percy) Jones, Annie (Willie) Hope, Larry (Debra) Buford, Leon (Shelia) Buford, Carl (Carol) Buford and Janice (Samuel) Lewis; Chester was also blessed with a large and loving legacy of 36 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, 45 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild and a sister, Cynthia McGhee. Chester also leave behind: three nieces dearest to his heart; Candy Smith, Doris Redmond and Helen Davis and a special nephew, Robert Gray (Jr). He is fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews and friends that he loved dearly.
Chester is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Buford; two daughters, Lillie Mae Tallie and Irene Thomas and his son, Chester Buford, III; his siblings: Edna Thompson Claybourn, Helen James, Alice Gray Frison, Lucinda Buford, Earnest Buford and James Buford.
