Chris Mayes

Chris Mayes, son of Zannie and the late Alberta Mayes, was born on November 22, 1977, in Oxford, Mississippi. Chris accepted Christ at an early age and joined Smith Chapel C.M.E. Church in Abbeville, Mississippi. He received his formal education in the Lafayette County School District and was a graduate of the Class of 1996. Chris furthered his education at Northwest Community College and became gainfully employed with the North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford, Mississippi and worked part-time as a security guard. Chris loved working at the center and he also enjoyed football, race cars and he loved his children. He was a San Francisco 49’ers fan and he loved hanging out with family and friends. On Sunday evening, September 15, 2020, while at his home, Chris slipped away. There is a tribute that says, “If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.” Chris was loved so much by those he leaves behind. His children: Chrystal Mayes and Caden T. Spearman both of Oxford MS; his father: Zannie Mayes of Oxford MS; his sister: Berta (Thomas) Hubbard of Memphis TN; his brothers: Zannie Lee Mayes of Irving TX, Wade Lee (Denis) Mayes of Hanover MD and Joe Jene (Fredonia) Mayes of Desoto TX; he also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
