Corrine Lavern Slaughter Woodard, daughter of the late Raymond and Trudie Slaughter, was born in Lafayette County. Mississippi on July 10, 1944.
Corrine confessed a belief in Christ at an early age at Salem United Methodist Church. She later worshipped at Harvest Ministries. She attended Oxford schools, graduating from the renowned Oxford Training School.
Corrine united in matrimony with Albert Joiner and to this union two children, Brigelle and Albert, Jr. were born. Albert preceded her in death. Corrine was employed at Graceland Health Care as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was a great care giver. She retired from Graceland to care for her ailing mother, whom she cared for until her death. Doctors were amazed that an elderly bedridden woman had no breaks in her skin.
“Amazing Grace” was Corrine’s favorite song. She loved singing. She also loved eating banana pudding and being with her two great grandsons, Anterian and Aiden. Corrine also cherished her time with her favorite niece, Dr. Trudy Shepherd. Before becoming ill, she also loved attending Cooks Day Care in New Albany, MS.
Corrine’s belief in God never wavered. When diagnosed with colon cancer, she did not cry like most would because she said, “God knows what he’s doing.” She knew God would take care of her and He did. When her eyesight dimmed, she would say, “When I can see again” and she was blessed to see better. She read all the street signs out loud on the way home from her doctor’s office.
Corrine went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS.
She is survived by her loving children: Brigelle Joiner and Albert Joiner both of Oxford, MS; three grandchildren: Chasity Joiner, Ashanti Johnson and Anthony Johnson both of Oxford, MS: two great grandsons: Aiden Suggs of Oxford, MS and Anterian Johnson of Water Valley, MS: four sisters, Merlean Shepherd, Jernell Greer and Patsy (Terry) Cooper all of Oxford, MS and Lee (Carl) Stewart of Nashville, TN, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Corrine is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Trudie Slaughter, a baby girl Karen and two sisters: Helen (Bobby) Williams and LuVertis (RD) Brown.
