Daniel Lee “Peter” Houston, son of the late Elisah and Arlelia Pegues, was born on November 13, 1955. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Daniel was a 1973 graduate of Oxford High School where he played basketball. He worked at Emerson Electric Company for 21 years along with carpentry work that he learned while working in his father’s business moving houses. His hobbies included drawing, hunting, and fishing. “Peter” was a fun-loving man who never met a stranger and enjoyed entertaining with his family and friends.
Daniel was united in holy matrimony to Hazel Smith for 49 years, and to this union a loving daughter, Candi Houston, was born and a grandson, Kendall Willingham.
Daniel gained his wings on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 to go be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters: Minister Chris Jones and Imrie, both of Oxford, MS; sons: Quincy (Monica) of Hawaii; Kareem, and Kellen, both of Oxford, MS; aunt: Lillie Mae (Andrew) Thompson of Oxford, MS; brothers: James (Mary) Houston of Detroit, MI, Freddie Lee Houston of Oxford, MS, and William (Marlene) Houston of Abbeville, MS; sisters: Gladys (Edward) Robins and Edith Hilliard both of Oxford, MS; sisters in law: Rosie (Lee) Buford of Bellwood, IL, Jeanise Smith of Fort Worth, TX, Dianne Smith of Houston, MS, and Juanita Hilliard of Oxford, MS; 21 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and other relatives, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Daniel was preceded in death by his brother L.V. Hilliard, aunts and uncles.
Please keep the Houston family in your prayers.
