Darryl Andre King, Sr.

Darryl Andre King, Sr., son of the late L B and Bernice King, was born October 24, 1971, in Oxford, Mississippi. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined East Providence Missionary Baptist Church and later moved his membership to Second Missionary Baptist Church for a brief period before reuniting with East Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford, Mississippi, At East Providence, Darryl served in many positions, including member of the Deacon Board, as church secretary, Sunday School secretary, Sunday School teacher, secretary of the Deacon Board and Chairman of the Benevolent Committee. 

Darryl attended Oxford City Schools and was a proud graduated of OHS's Class of 1990.  After graduating from high school he went on to pursue his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (BBA) in Managerial Finance from the University of Mississippi. Upon entering the workforce, Darryl worked in the banking industry from 1995 - 1999. In September of 1999, his career took a new direction when he entered the technology field of telecommunication. He was employed with North Star Communications from 1999 - 2005 and in 2005, he gained employment with Bell South/AT&T Corporation, and remained there until his health failed.

Darryl contributed service to the community through his Greek Fraternity, the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Lafayette County Civic Club Board of Directors and a member of the Oxford Masonic Lodge #16. Darryl was a willing servant and on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, after fighting a long and hard battle, the Lord said unto him, " Well done thou good and faithful servant:  thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler of many things," and Darryl made a peaceful transition to his heavenly father's house.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his son: Darryl King, Jr.; his loving daughter: Tiara King; and his grandson, whom he called his heart, Darryl King III, all of Oxford MS; He also leaves four sisters: Bonnie Shepherd, Linda Gipson, and Vicki Wortham all of Oxford MS and Lynette (Larry) Simmons of Memphis TN; a brother: Luster (Gwen) King of Oxford MS; a friend: Tywana Graham of Oxford MS. Darryl also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. 

Darryl was preceded in death by his parents: L B and Bernice King; grandparents: Willie Porter and Buster King.
