Early Life & Family~ Mr. David Lee Ivy, age 74, answered his heavenly call on February 28, 2026. Born on June 16, 1951, to the late Nelson Ivy and Elner Boston Ivy, David was the cherished “knee baby” of fifteen children — a title he wore proudly and often joked about. Growing up surrounded by siblings helped shape his playful personality, resilience, and deep love for family.

Faith & Church Life~ At an early age, David professed his faith in Jesus Christ at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. His relationship with the Lord remained the foundation of his life. He served faithfully as a Deacon for many years and also served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, providing spiritual leadership and guidance to the congregation. David attended church weekly until his health began to decline. Even then, his devotion never wavered — he faithfully watched worship services online every Sunday, remaining spiritually connected to the church he loved.

Education & Love Story~ David attended Central High School and graduated in 1972. In 1968, he met the love of his life, Johnnie Lue Marzette. Their love blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were united in marriage in 1971. For 54 years, Johnnie stood faithfully by his side in a bond rooted in love, commitment, and enduring partnership.

Work & Service ~David was a hardworking and dedicated provider. He worked at Georgia Pacific for over 30 years as a Lead Man, where he was respected for his leadership, loyalty, and strong work ethic. Later in life, he worked for Oxford City Schools in the cafeteria. There, his sense of humor truly came alive around the children. He delighted in making them laugh, sharing jokes, and brightening their day — a reflection of the jokester he had been since childhood. In addition to his professional work, David faithfully served as Treasurer of The Board Retirement Club until his health began to fail, demonstrating his commitment to service, accountability, and fellowship.

Brotherhood & Passion~ David had a passion for riding motorcycles from an early age that carried over into adulthood. He was a member of the Knight Riders Motorcycle Club, where he was affectionately known as “Blind,” a nickname carried over from childhood. Though the club later disbanded, the brotherhood, memories, and camaraderie remained a meaningful part of his life.

Family & Community~ David loved to grill and could often be found cooking for those he loved. He enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and creating memories that will live on for generations. He was always active in bringing family together and was a dedicated member of The Family Reunion Planning Committee, helping organize gatherings that kept generations connected and memories alive.

Preceded in Death ~David was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; five sisters; and his beloved granddaughter, Kyra Stevens. David stepped in as “Paw Paw” to help raise her daughter, Zya, embracing the role with love, protection, and devotion.

Cherished Memories~ He leaves to cherish his loving wife of 54 years, Johnnie Ivy; his children: Tasha Ivy of Olive Branch, MS; Marcus Ivy (Patrice) of Chicago, IL; LaKeisha Ivy and LaTeisha Ivy, both of Oxford, MS; and Michael Stokes of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Jelene Hill (Curlie) of Oxford, MS and Ruth Nichols (Patrick) of Norwalk, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Mae Della Marzette of Etta, MS; Juanita Ivy of Milwaukee, WI; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, fellow riders, and friends.

Very Special Friends~ David also leaves behind very special friends who were like family to him: Minnie Cooper, George Sullivan, James Milliner, Danny Buford, Curtis Owens, Willie Frierson, David Hilliard, James Martin, Russell Boles, Sr., and The Lewis Guys.
