Dennis McEwen Obituary

Mr. Dennis Frierson McEwen was born May 6, 1932 in Lafayette County, Mississippi to the late Willie Lee Woods McEwen and Ira Brook McEwen. Dennis professed his faith in Christ at a young age and joined Beverly Chapel M.E. Church, now known as Beverly United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member until his health failed.

Dennis received his education at West Springhill School. As a young man, he obtained employment at the University of Mississippi as a butcher. He retired after 40 years. He was well known as a great cook, having a part-time employment at Bonanza and Handy Andy Grocery. He was also a farmer and raised cows, which he made reference to as a "one man herd."

Dennis married Minnie Lillian Leggs on January 26, 1954 and to this union, three children were born, Ruthie Genel, William Ira, and Herbert Bernard McEwen.

On Monday, July 12, 2021, Dennis departed this life at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, to live eternally with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 67 years, Minnie Lillian; sons, William (Bobbie) and Herbert McEwen all of Oxford, MS; eight grandchildren; Landria, Kwan, Shanda, Kendric (Kimberly), Niko, Linita (Brandon), Iyan, and Imani; eight great-grandchildren; Keynin, Kwandarius, Kimya, Makai, Kennedy, Noah, Kaden, and Malaysia; one sister, Virginia McEwen Thomas of Milwaukee, WI; one sister-in-law, Ruby Taylor and one brother-in-law, George Leggs both of Holly Springs, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruthie Genel, great-grandson, Nehemiah Hodges, and a special nephew, Cleophus L. McEwen.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
