Derek Lemont Patton, was born May 11, 1979, in Oxford, MS, to Cynthia Patton-Gilkey and Sharron Webb. He joined West Springhill MB Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Clinton Gipson and later united with Berean MB Church in Memphis, TN.
Derek received his formal education from the Memphis public school system, graduating from Whitehaven High School in 1997, and continued to pursue educational advancement through Phoenix University. Derek was employed with Nike, Inc. in Memphis, TN as an Area Manager (Coach). He loved his support team and members at Nike, speaking often about the team of workers. Derek was a hard worker, motivator and very ambitious. His goal was to move to the top. "I think I have found my calling," was his description of his "Purpose of Life."
Derek loved to show off his culinary skills. He once had ambitions to become a chef and his 3-Meat Lasagna was his signature dish. Derek was very family-oriented, and a selfless man, willing to help someone when he could. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nephews and nieces.
On Thursday, February 22, 2024, Derek peacefully passed passed away. To cherish his memories, he leaves his mother: Cynthia Patton-Gilkey (Terry Gatlin, special friend) of Memphis TN; his father: Sharron (Annie) Webb of Richton Park, IL; his maternal grandmother: Lula Patton of Oxford, MS; his siblings: Kedric Tyrone Vaughn of Richton Park IL, Naykia (Jose) Allen of Potomac MD, Ashely (Eddie) Rogers of Matteson IL and Erica Webb of Chicago IL; six nephews, two nieces, special cousins who were like sisters: Nedra Lyles-Jones of Roswell GA and Sheronda Certion of Oxford MS; special friends who were dear to his heart: Lena Chilton and Shena Faulkner of Memphis TN and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather: Murray Patton and uncle: Larry Patton; his paternal grandparents: David and Sarah Webb and uncles: Jessie and Melvin Webb.
