Derrick Lamont Key was born March 18, 1977, to Willie C. and Shirley M. Key in Lafayette County Mississippi.
Derrick accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of East St. Peter M.B. Church where he remained a member until his death.
Derrick was diagnosed with Autism and attended Oxford School District's Scott Center which provided educational services to address his Autism. He later transitioned to Oxford Middle School's Exceptional Needs Program and Oxford High School where he graduated with the Class of 1996.
Derrick, affectionately known as “Bird,” enjoyed watching WWE, shopping at Dollar Tree, visiting his sister every spring break and eating out weekly with his mom. His unique personally brought joy and love to the entire family.
On February 27, 2024, while at home with his mother and sister by his side, Derrick made his transition to eternity after a two-year illness. Derrick’s love and memory is shared by his mother: Shirley Key; sister: Brenda (Aundra) Price of Ridgeland, MS; Niece and nephew: Andria, Bria and Brandon Price; His aunts and uncles; Ellen (David), Mae Ruth, Will (Deloris), Hersie (Shirley), Walter, Lillie, Lue (Willie), Patsy, Petsy, James (Keesha), Cora, Patricia, and Teresa. He also leaves his grandmother: Evelyn Ramsey along with other relatives and friends.
Derrick was proceeded in death by his father: Willie C. Key; brother: Timothy O’Neal Key; grandparents: C F Pegues, Cora Pegues, and Walter Ramsey.
