April 9, 1957 ~ June 23, 2023 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Obituary

Diane McGee was born on April 9, 1957, in Taylor, Mississippi to two loving parents, Eddie L. and Ossie Martin McGee. To this union, 12 children were born, including five brothers and six sisters.

Diane was described by family and friends as a down-home country girl who was honest, sweet, easy going, hardworking, immensely intelligent and a quiet observer. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined North Hopewell M.B. Church of Taylor, Mississippi. Diane was often seen with a book in her hand in addition to taking time to assist her parents around the house. In fact, she was instrumental with helping her late mother get a GED so she could teach as part of the Head Start program.

As a student at Lafayette County High School, Diane was involved in several extracurricular activities that included reporting for the school’s newspaper, serving as a representative for the Senior High Student Council, along with being a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the national organization of outstanding mathematics students. Diane was voted by her classmates as Most Dignified Senior and graduated from Lafayette County High School in 1975. She went on to attend Northwest Junior College (Northwest Community College) to study radiology.

Before moving to Houston, Texas, in 1978, she welcomed Darrel Eugene McGee into the world. In 1979, she embraced her passion for working with numbers when she assumed the role of Patient Account Billing Clerk for Memorial Hermann Hospital. During her tenure at Memorial Herman, she was a longtime proud member of the Memorial Hospital Systems softball team. Diane continued her position with Memorial Hermann for 21 years.

Diane was an avid sports enthusiast. From rooting for the Astros to keeping up with all her favorite basketball, football and baseball teams, sports were regular topics of discussion when catching up with friends and family.

Diane transitioned to her new heavenly home on June 23, 2023. To cherish her memory, she leaves two sons, Darrell Eugene McGee of Missouri City, TX and Desmond (Reesha) Edwards, of Webster, TX; one brother, Willie (Regina) McGee of Taylor, MS; five sisters, Mary Ella (Miller) Backstrom and Osceola (Paul) Knight of Joliet, ILL, Daisy Walton of Water Valley, MS. Loretta Betts of Stafford, TX and Luvenia (Howard) Philips of Taylor MS.; one sister-in-law Cindy McGee of Baton Rouge, LA; three Aunts, Annie Curtis of Memphis, TN, Maudie Rockette of Water Valley, MS, and Roberta Johnson of Taylor, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Diane in death are her parents: Ossie S. and Eddie L. McGee; and siblings, Edward Earl, James Edward, Chester Lee, Tommy Lee, and Flora Bell McGee Bland.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
