Earl Gillom,Jr., son of the late Earl Gillom and Emma Bell Vaughn, was born February 2, 1939, in Lafayette County, MS. Earl confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined East St. Peter M.B. Church, in Abbeville MS, under the leadership of the late Pastor C. I. Bulloch. He received his early childhood education in the Woodson Ridges Community School..
Earl, Jr., was united in matrimony to Mary Alice Vaughn and to this union, three children were born. Earl had an amazing voice and he enjoyed singing. He sang with gospel groups such as the Stars of Harmony and he sang for 40+ years with the Traveling All Stars. He even hummed a little tune the day he planned his memorial service in October of 2023, and his voice still sounded good.
Earl was a welder by trade and was employed with Allen Brothers Welding Company in Memphis TN for over 30 years. On December 5, 2024, while in Diversicare Nursing Facility in Batesville MS, Earl, Jr., went home to be at rest. He leaves to cherish his memory: three children: Earl Gilliom, III, Shirley Gillom and Bridgett Gillom all of Alton IL; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; His sisters: Lena Porter of Memphis TN, JoAnn Hood of Abbeville MS, Earlene Hudson, Ethel Goolsby, Betty Gillom, Ruby Gillom, Sarah Crawford and Rossie Vaughn of Oxford MS and Emma Jean Vaughn of Atlanta GA; His brothers: Barney Gillom of Charlotte SC, George Larry Gillom, Avant Vaughn, Jr., and Henry "Mac" Vaughn all of Oxford MS; a special nephew: Allen Vaughn of Oxford MS and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Earl,Jr., is preceded in death by his parents: Earl Gillom and Emma Bell Vaughn; and siblings: Clyde Gillom, Robert Gillom, Granville Gillom, Curley Gillom, Archie Gillom, Dorothy Gillom Joiner, Earnestine Gillom Gordon, Shirley Gillom Isom, Susie Vaughn, Juanita Vaughn, Hattie Houston and Frank Mitchell.
