Edna Pearl Brooks Rockette, daughter of the late Willie Bell Gooch Ellis and the late John Brooks, was born in Water Valley. Mississippi, on June 6, 1959. Also sharing a big part in her life was the late I. J. Ellis. Edna accepted Christ at an early age at Martin Street Church of Christ in Water Valley but in later year she united with North Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
Edna received her education in the Water Valley school district. and furthered her education at Northwest Community College and Ole Miss. She was united in matrimony to Edward Rockette and to this union a son was born, Edward O'Neil. She formally worked as a floor secretary with Baptist Memorial Hospital/NM, but due to a health challenges had to take a medical retirement.
Edna was a fun person, with a drive to persevere. Even when the battle got hard, she fought even harder. But we will remember the things she enjoyed doing. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards and loved her family. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help others from being a caretaker for several years, to being a foster grandparent with the North Mississippi Regional Center until her health failed.
On Monday, July 6, 2020, Edna's drive to persevere was finished. She had gone as far as she could go and the Lord came to take her the rest of the way. Now she's resting easy. She is loving remembered by her son: Edward O'Neil (Laquestria) Rockette of Oxford MS, and she leaves precious memories with her step-daughter, whom she loved as her own: Carlotta (Darrius) Moore of Oxford MS; and her brother: Carl (Clara) Brooks of Oxford MS. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: John Brooks and Harry Brooks.
Please keep the Rockette family lifted in prayer.
