Elihue Burt

Obituary

Elihue "Hue" Burt, the son of the late Linder and Annie Lee Burt, was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi, on July 3, 1958. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Hope M.B. in Taylor, Mississippi and later united with East Providence M.B Church in Oxford, Mississippi where he served as a faithful deacon and sang melodiously and beautifully with the Adult Choir and the Male Choir.

Elihue received his formal education in the Lafayette County Schools and was a proud graduate of Lafayette High School Class of 1976. After graduation, he enrolled in Northwest Mississippi Junior  College and later enlisted in the United States Army in 1981. While serving his country, Elihue received an Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Performance of Duty. After his discharge in 2001, he served in the Mississippi Army National Guard.

Elihue was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Nancy, and thy remained happily married until his death. He was employed with TORO COMPANY in Oxford, MS and worked part-time for Cobra Security. He retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation in 2018. Elihue never met a stranger, always greeting others with a charismatic smile and conversation. On Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Baptist Memorial Hospital/NM, :Hue" went home and now he's singing and smiling with the angels. 

He will forever be remembered lovingly by his beloved wife, Nancy Burt: daughter: Jianna Nobles; brothers: James (Geneva) Burt, Leonard (Glenda) Burt, and Eugene (Janice) Burt; sisters: Annie Faye Confer, Benta Burt, Carolyn (Richard) Chambliss, Effie Burt, Rosetta Campbell, Rosie (Willie) Davis and Ruby (Eric) Montgomery; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Elihue was preceded in death by his parents: Linder and Annie Lee Burt and his sister: Rorean Houston.
