Elizabeth Blackburn was born December 29, 1951, to Willie Frank Wright Sr. and Betty Louise Hentz Wright. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church in Courtland, MS. She was a faithful servant on the Stewardess Board and assistant to the pastor until her health failed. She worked for Kay and Steve Nichols for 30 years and Dr. Purohit for 40 years doing housekeeping.
Elizabeth met Billy Ray Blackburn, and although no children were born to this union, she loved children dearly. Her husband preceded her in death. Elizabeth departed this life on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at her home in Batesville, MS.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her adopted daughter: Quoneshia Wright, two adopted sons: Chris Wright and Christopher Wright; her daughter in love: Dewanda Tellis; seven grandchildren: Aiden Wright, La'Avah Wright, Kaylee Wright, Nyles Wright, Chris Tiana Wright, Ashley Allen and ChaTerrika Tellis; One great grandchild: Jayce Tellis; one brother: Robert (Linda) Wright of Batesville, MS; three sisters: Annie Wright and Oretha Wright of Batesville, MS and Cora Mays of Independence, MS; one brother in law: Bobby Blackburn of Batesville, MS and one sister in law: Josephine Wright of Batesville, MS; three god children: Gertie Henderson, Trina Henderson and Marquisha Young and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie Sr and Betty Wright; her husband: Billy Ray Blackburn; son: Jermaine Wright; three sisters: Edith Virginia Chapman, Irma Dell Wright and Alice Wright; five brothers: Joe Willie Wright, John William Wright, Walter Wright, Willie Frank Wright, Jr and James Wright.
