"TREAT OTHERS JUST AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED." Luke 6:31
Ella Ree Flemons Gillom, the first of eight children, was born October 5, 1935, in Abbeville, Mississippi, to the late Beverly and Lettie B. Thompson Flemons. At an early age, Ella Ree accepted Christ at Providence United Methodist Church, in Abbeville, Mississippi, where she remained a faithful member until her death.
As a member of Providence United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Board of Trustees, and the United Methodist Women's Committee on Race and Religion. She also was a choir member, usher and a youth worker. She attended Bible Study every Wednesday and Prayer Meeting every Monday. Ella Ree Gillom was about her Father's business.
On July 10th, 1955, Ella Ree was united in matrimony to George Gillom, Sr., and to this union 10 children were born. Her husband, George and four children preceded her in death. As a nurturer, and in addition to caring for and raising her own children, she provided nourishment to the children of Lafayette Elementary School where she worked as a cook and she still found time to raise a garden that enabled her to feed her large family.
In addition to cooking for the school, she shaped many lives and was known and loved for her delicious greens and chicken and dressing. Her favorite past time was Sunday Dinners with her children and grandchildren. But Ella Ree didn't stop there. She fed whoever visited her home. One of her hobbies was traveling locally and abroad.
On Thursday evening, August 1, 2024, while at her earthly home surrounded with the love of her children and grandchildren, her FATHER needed her to be with Him, so, being about her FATHER'S business, she closed her loving eyes and went to her heavenly home to be with HIM and the loved ones who has gone on before her.
The legacy that she leaves behind is, her strong faith in God and her love for her family. To cherish her memories, she leaves her sons: Herman (Pam) Flemons of Abbeville MS, Louis (Min. Laura) Gillom of Oxford MS, and step-son: Chester Burnett of Oxford MS; her daughters: Peggie Gillom-Granderson (Anthony) of Abbeville MS, Rev. Emma Sue Ward (Rev. Eddie) of Oxford MS, Jennifer Gillom of Phoenix AZ and Priscilla Gillom-Fisher of Abbeville MS; five sisters: Dorothy Ree Shaw, Ressie B. Isom (Ben), Min. Pearlie Mae Farrow, Curley Lee Farrow and Stella Mae Flemons, all of Abbeville MS; daughter-in-law: Wanda Gillom of Gainsville VA; step daughter-in-law: Deborah White of Seattle WA; and sister-in-law: Pam Flemons of Atlanta GA; she leaves unconditional love to 33 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 20 great great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ella Ree is preceded in death by her parents: Beverly and Lettie B. Flemons; her husband: George Gillom, Sr.; four sons: Greg Gillom, Sr., Thomas Gillom, George Gillom, Jr. and Elge Flemons; one step-son: Gare White; one brother: John Larry Flemons; three sisters: Mary Ann Flemons, Jerline Coleman, and Gladys Mae Kirby; a great great great granddaughter: Madison Bledsoe; and one stepdaughter-in-law: Conneill Cohran-Burnett.
Please Keep the Gillom/Flemons family in your prayers
