Emma Pryor Obituary

Emma Jean Pryor was born in Oxford, Mississippi on December 7, 1961, to Lucious and Emma Sue Burt. Emma graduated from Oxford High School in 1979. Although small in stature (4/11”), she was mighty in nature. Every morning she could be found diligently reading her bible with her favorite cup of Mocha coffee. It was not a cold ritual: she delighted in knowing her God through His Word and depended on Him as the source of her quiet strength. Some of her hobbies included watching her favorite western, “Gunsmoke,” playing Scrabble, and baking delicious cakes and pies.

Emma would come to meet the Love of her life in front of her high school one auspicious afternoon, a tall, handsome young man named Dwight K. Pryor. They were married, January 3, 1981, and remained married for 41 years.

Emma and Dwight began their traves through life by moving to Houston, TX, where Dwight began a career in engineering. From this union have grown many branches on their tree of life, from their two biological sons, to countless other children unofficially adopted, but loved upon just the same.

Understanding her time on earth as an investment, Emma made the conscious decision to stay home and invest full-time in her husband and children, from the birth of their firstborn, Christopher, to the youngest, Jordan. She would stay home for 17 years before returning to the workforce as a front desk receptionist for Miller Intermediate School in Alief ISD, where she continued to invest daily in the people she would meet.

Consistent with her testimony of Christ, Emma, along with her family were members of several churches over the years, most notably: Riceville Baptist Church, Houston’s First Baptist Church, and Friendship Community Bible Church.

During the late afternoon of August 1, 2022, Emma J. Pryor, heard the call of Jesus to come home, and she departed peacefully and entered eternal rest. At the very moment she breathed her last breath, she was found absent from this would, but present with God. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving and devoted husband, Dwight K. Pryor; two sons: Christopher J Pryor (Mayelli) of Katy TX and Jordan G. Pryor of Houston TX; two sisters: Jessie McJunkins and Lovie Burt both of Oxford MS; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and very close friends. Sister Emma j. Pryor is now celebrating with a host of angels in Heaven and worshipping at the feet of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
