Erlene Paten

Erlene Paten was born July 9, 1931 to Grover Paten and Dell (Oliver) Paten in Lafayette County, Mississippi.  She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Old Salem M. B. Church.

Erlene worked at The Holiday Inn in Oxford, MS for more than 40 years. She met the love of her life James "Jack" Joiner and this union six children were born. Earlene  loved  cook big meals,, sit on her front porch, loved to work in her garden and be with her grandchildren.

 On Saturday, March 21, 2026 at her daughter's residence in Water Valley, Mississippi, she peacefully went home to be with the Lord.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Earline (Aaron) Smith, Water Valley, Mississippi; sons, Fred (Mary) Joiner, Milwaukee, WI; James  Joiner and J.D, Joiner, both of Oxford, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren, Denise, Rachel, Artis Jr.,  Patrick, Joseph, Fred Jr., James, Zack, Cruz and Syliva ; a host of great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Artis Owens and Robert Slack; and a host of  nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Joiner; two daughters, Dorothy Owens, Geraldine Slack; her parents, Grover Paten and Dell Oliver Paten; three sisters, Odessa Paten, Geraldine Paten Houston Buford and Marie Paten Nelson and her brothers, Lonzo Paten and J.D. Paten. and a close friend James Barr
