Etta Lee Miller, daughter of the late Henry and Fannie Hilliard Miller, was born on March 12, 1941, in Lafayette County, Mississippi. She was one of 10 children.
Etta accepted Christ at an early age. Her Christian duty led her to become an engaged member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, where she was actively involved with the Senior Plus Ministry and always willing to help where needed in the church.
Etta received her formal education from Oxford Training School (“OTS”), where she graduated in 1960. While in school, she was a majorette and a member of the school’s marching band. She was also a member of the Tri Hi Y which was a girls youth organization.
After graduating from high school, Etta relocated to Chicago IL, where she gained employment with Curtis Candy Company working there until her retirement. After retirement, she moved back to Mississippi and became a licensed dietitian, working for Emerson Electric Company, Oxford Lafayette County Hospital, Azalea Gardens, Golden Years Nursing Home, and many others. Etta also served as a foster grandparent with the North Mississippi Regional Center.
On Friday, January 17, 2025, while in her home, Etta answered her call and received her wings. She leaves to cherish her memory: two loving children: Vendetta (Herron) Wortham, of West Palm Beach, FL and Elliott (Rhonda) Miller of Oxford, MS; one step-son, Lorenzo Bell, Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; two loving brothers: Willie Earl (Elena) Miller of Memphis, TN and Arthur (Charlene) Miller of Oxford, MS; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Fannie; sisters: Mae Bell, Ossie, Rosie and Lizzie; and brothers: Henry, Jr., Willie C, and Harry.
