Eugene Thompson was born November 25, 1944, in Abbeville, MS to the late James P. and Susie Harris Thompson.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of East St. Peter M.B. Church.
Eugene was united in holy matrimony to Rachel Phillips and to this union, two children were born, Vincent Phillips and Cecelia Thompson, both preceded him in death.
Eugene spent the majority of his life in Michigan. He was loved by his friends and neighbors. He loved people and never met a stranger. After many years, he moved back home to be close to his family.
It was not uncommon for Eugene to say “before my feet hit the ground, Lord I thank you for another day.”
On Sunday, January 29, 2023, God said “servant, I know your heart – come, take your rest.” Eugene entered eternal rest at Great Oaks Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Byhalia, MS.
He leaves to cherish his memories four grandchildren, Celisse Hickinbottom, Lashetta Hickinbottom, Veleise Phillips, and Leonte Thompson all of Oxford, MS; nine great grandchildren; one brother, John (Jessie) Thompson of Abbeville, MS; four sisters, Burnice Thompson, Maxine Thompson, Mae Retha Thompson and Elaine (Herman) Thompson-Pegues all of Oxford, MS; sister-in-law, Jimmie Thompson of Oxford, MS and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Phillips of Oxford, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James “Toy” Thompson, Arthur Earl “Scooter Bug” Thompson, Melvin Thompson and Raymond Harris.
