Evelyn Hickinbottom Hudson was one of 14 children, was born on November 21, 1939, to the union of the late Roy and Lottie Hickinbottom in Denmark (Layette County), Mississippi. She attended school in Denmark and lived there until the 1960s when she later moved to Oxford, Mississippi.
After moving to Oxford, Evelyn married Roosevelt Carouthers and together they raised three children, William Kelly, Linda Diane, and Roosevelt. Roosevelt preceded her in death. Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age and joined East St. Peter M.B. Church where she remained a faithful member until her health failed. She was elevated to the office of Mother under the leadership of Pastor William Woods. On April 28, 1990, Evelyn married William C. Hudson and they honored their vows until her final breath.
Evelyn enjoyed many hobbies, but at the top of the list was going to church. She loved to call on the name of the Lord. Come Sunday morning, she made sure she made it to the House of the Lord. She also loved fishing and sharing memorable moments with her family. Evelyn worked at Emerson Electric Company as a forklift driver until she was injured. Thereafter, she worked closely with Ms. Stairs, Mrs. Canty and Mrs. Calhoun in the management of their respective homes. Evelyn had a passion for witnessing to souls and would often witness to her own family members about becoming saved and sharing with her in the joy of the Lord.
On Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. Evelyn made her transition to be with the Lord while at her residence surrounded with the love of her husband, Willie, her daughter, Linda and daughter, Lora by her side.
Precious memories of love, compassion, and her legacy will live on and be cherished by her husband of 34 years, William C. Hudson; her sons: William Kelly Blassingame, Carl (Gwen) Gillom, Deary (Bernadette), Greg Hudson, Lynn Gilliam and Ray Hudson; her daughters: Evangelist Linda Diane Carouthers, Lora Cook, Gloria Hudson, Jacquline Hudson, Lashunda (Bobby) Hervey, Cassandra (Tony) Goliday, Sherril Goliday, and Charlette (Isaiah) Goliday; her cherished grandsons: Jeremy Stone, Kent Robinson Jr., Michael Smith and Bradley Smith; her cherished grand-daughters: Jacqueline (Dennis) Broadnax and Ja’Nita Carouthers; and a host of great-grandchildren, all of whom she was most proud. Two brothers: Noel (Jackie) Hickinbottom, and Aaron Hickinbottom; and her sister in love. Rachel Hickinbottom. She also leaves to cherish her memory: a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and extended church family.
Awaiting her in heaven are her parents: Roy and Lottie Hickinbottom; her son, Roosevelt Carouthers; her grandson, Roosevelt Carouthers; seven brothers: Robodius, George, Joy, Jesse, Rev. Ray, Ira T. and Joel; and four sisters: Ella, Mary, Zella Mae and Levelle.
