Fannie McEwen Jones-Dortch, was born October 30, 1951, in Oxford, MS, to the late Edward and Alice Redmond (McEwen) Mayes. She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age and began her spiritual journey at Tobby Tubby MB Church and later her spiritual walk continued with New Beginning MB Church, both in Oxford, MS.
Fannie moved to Memphis, TN where she stayed for over 30 years and raised two daughters alone. She received her General Education Development diploma and obtained her cosmetology license. Fannie loved being a caregiver. She enjoyed traveling and fishing, and she had a special passion for cooking and catering. But the things Fannie truly loved most, was a being a mother, a sister, a daughter, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, cousin and friend. She loved her family. Fannie joyfully retired from the Memphis City School System as a cafeteria manager. She was well known for her great home cooking, especially her dressing and peach cobbler.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, just before noon, at Baptist Memorial Hospital N/M in Oxford, MS. Fannie was welcomed home by her parents: Edward McEwen and Alice (Redmond) McEwen Mayes and her grandson: Decorean T. Carter.
