It is with sadness that we announce the passing of longtime friend, Central High School Eagle's and Oxford City League basketball player, Neal Armstrong.
He was born Forrest O'neal Armstrong and was affectionately known as "Neal." He was the son of the late Forrest Armstrong and Odessa Brown Armstrong, and was born in Oxford, Mississippi on July 7, 1951. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Second Missionary Baptist Church.
Neal received his formal education in the Oxford School District and graduated with the last segregated class from Lafayette County's historically known Central High School in 1969. After high school, Neal went on to received an Associate Degree from Northwest Mississippi Junior Collage (now Northwest Community College).
He loved basketball and was an active participant in city league basket ball in the late 70's and 80's. Neal loved talking, hanging with friends and spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time he liked to read and he was a "neat freak." everything in order. At Canterbury Crest Apartments, Neal was a known figure. Tall, bald, smiling, walking on his cane and talking to everyone.
Forrest O'neal Armstrong's presence will be missed. He passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020. But he will forever be remembered by his loving children: Zachary (Carolyn) Armstrong and Auntwan Armstrong, both of Fort Worth TX, and Ryann Armstrong of Woodbridge VA; his 11 grandchildren; his brother: Henry "Cliff" Armstrong of Oxford MS; his three sisters: Brenda Armstrong of Oakland CA, Marion Armstrong and Laura Armstrong both of Oxford MS; and a host of nieces. nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was presented in death by his parents, Forrest and Odessa Armstrong, two brother, Sullivan Armstrong and Warren Armstrong; and a special nephew, Rodrick Armstrong.
