Geneva Baskin was born on July 16, 1928, in Lafayette County to the late Fred and Addie (Hilliard) Baskin.
“Genny,” as she was affectionately called by her family, professed her hope in Christ and joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was a past member of the choir and served on the Mission Society. She remained a member until her death.
Geneva was united in matrimony George Buford.
Geneva loved to cook, and her cooking skills were widely known and praised at family gatherings, especially her greens, cornbread, and dressing. She worked at the University of Mississippi in food service and would do private sitting for families throughout the Lafayette County community. She later began working at North Mississippi Regional Center as a foster grandparent and found this to be something special to her. For more than 20 years, Genny fostered the clients of NMRC and loved them as if they were on her own.
On Friday January 21, 2022, the Lord picked a beautiful rose from his earthly garden to plant in His heavenly garden. God whispered to Genny “well done my good and faithful servant, come home.” She peacefully transitioned from her earthly life to eternal life with the Lord while surrounded by loved ones at her home.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory; two daughters, Schenille Martin and Alice (Charles) McJunkins both of Oxford, MS; two sons, Rodney (Carla) Baskin and Lynn Baskin both of Oxford, MS; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Marion of Urbana, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, George Buford; six children, Dorothy Sanders, George Buford, Herman Baskin, David Baskin, Jeanette Baskin, and Glen Baskin; and five siblings Stanford Baskin, George Baskin, Catherine C. Houston, Frank Baskin, and Rosie Baskin.
