George Edward Carrothers was born on March 27, 1954 in Lafayette County, Mississippi to Eloyce Hampton and the late Jimmy McEwen. Early in life, George confessed a hope in Christ and joined Buford Chapel United Methodist Church. George received his education in the Lafayette County School District.
George was employed with Emerson Electric, Oxford Country Club Golf Course, and, he also worked with his brothers-in-law at Pettis Masonary, calling themselves "The Four Horsemen." George enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, watching TUBI and Westerns shows. His biggest joy was "HANGING OUT" with his Friends and Family,
On Saturday, December 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, George passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother: Eloyce Hampton, Oxford, Mississippi; his children: daughter, LaSonja Pettis, Oxford, MS; son: Corey Carrothers, Abbeville, MS; granddaughter: Semaj Pettis; grandson: Caleb Carrothers, Oxford, MS; great-grandson: Elijah Ivy, Nashville, TN; brother and sister: Tony Hampton and Patricia Dunn, both of Oxford, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
George is preceded in death by his grandparents: Estell Lewis and Bill and Beulah McEwen; brother: Jerry Hampton; sister: Mary Diane Holley and niece: Mignon Price.
