Gilbert McThunel, the son of the late Haywood and Barbara Ann McThunel, was born in Panola County, Mississippi, on April 15, 1958.
Gilbert confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Coleman Chapel AME Zion Church in Batesville. Mississippi. Gilbert was united in matrimony to Bobbie Nell Lofton and to this union three children were born. His wife, Bobbie and a daughter, Adrienne, both preceded him in death.
In October 1979, Gilbert joined the armed forces and enlisted in the U. S. Army and served his county for six years. During his service, he numerous medals, badges, ribbons and/or citations. The Oversea Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman Medal and Hand Grenade Medal. Gilbert also received the 24G1T Improved Hawk Information Coordinator Central Mechanic. In September 1985, Gilbert received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army.
On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Gilbert McThunel went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories, his children Gilbert McThunel, II and Courtney McThunel, both of Batesville MS; five grandchildren; two brothers: Dennis Van Lee of Detroit MI and Nathan Hooks of Batesville MS. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friend.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a daughter.
