Harvey "Sam" Jones Obituary

Harvey Lee Jones was born July 12, 1959, in Oxford, MS. He was the last of fourteen children born to the union of the late Dudley and Mary Williams Jones.

“Sam,” as he was affectionately called, grew up in a loving and caring home. He was baptized at Rock Hill M.B. Church and later moved his membership to East Providence M.B. Church. He attended Lafayette County Schools. He was employed with the City of Oxford in the Maintenance Department for well over 20 years. When he wasn’t at his primary job, Sam would often take on various handy jobs for people in the community.

Sam was a man who loved and enjoyed life. He loved helping others, listening to gospel and blues music, and always thought that he could “out cook” everybody. He also loved family gatherings and was always the life of the party. He would often tell his family that his daddy left him in charge to watch after the girls (his sisters).

On Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Grenada Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Grenada, MS, Sam traded his earthly life for eternal life with the Lord.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Zeporia Jones of Evansville, IN; three grandchildren; siblings, Cleophis (Patricia) Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, Odessa Williams, Etta Key, and Voleller (J.B.) Stokes all of Oxford, MS; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Jones, Alice Jones both of Oxford, MS, and Lavada Jones of Los Angeles, CA; and one brother-in-law, S T Jamison. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings, Osia, Wriley, Hervin, Elton, Jerry, Willie, and Marvin Jones, Minnie McGuirt and Adalene Redmond Jamison.

Please keep the Jones family in your prayers.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
