Hazel Laverne Porter was born June 21, 1952 to the late Florence Carrie Porter in Oxford, MS. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age and united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until her death.
Hazel received her education from Central High School in Oxford MS and was a member of the Tri-Hi-Y, FHA Annual Staff and band. She was a graduate of Central High School's class of 1970. She furthered her educational journey by attending and receiving degrees from Coahoma Community College, Jackson State University, and the University of Mississippi.
After college, she gained employment as a teacher with the Lafayette County School District. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Hazel went home to be with the Lord.
She is preceded in death by two siblings, Shirley Porter, Reba Porter, and her nephew, whom she raised as her own, Aldrick Porter.
To cherish her memories she leaves her sister, Mildred Frierson, Oxford, MS; brother, Richard Porter (Nina), Warner-Robbins, GA.
