Herman Charles Pegues was born April 7, 1939 to the late Ellie and Lola Pegues in Oxford, MS.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined East St. Peter M.B. Church. On November 26, 1951, Herman married the love of his life, Lillie Smith, and to this union eight children were born.
Herman was a hard-working man. He was self-employed as a wood hauler and enjoyed his job to the fullest. When he wasn’t in his big truck, Herman could usually be found repairing cars. If you knew Herman, you knew that he got up every morning and got dressed as if he was going to a special event. He was a spiffy dresser and loved to wear his cowboy boots and a nice hat or cap to compliment his daily attire. He also really enjoyed listening and dancing to the blues. He was a great baseball player and truly loved the game. Fishing was also on his list of favorite things to do.
On Monday, January 18, 2021, Herman passed away at Oxford Health and Rehab - Oxford, MS, retiring his earthly clothes for an eternal wardrobe with the Lord.
His memories will be cherished forever by his loving wife of 61 years, Lillie Beatrice Pegues of Oxford, MS; sons, Herman Pegues, Jr. (Elaine) of Oxford, MS, James Wesley Pegues (Joyce) of Water Valley, MS, Marcus Pegues (Lisa), Mark Pegues both of Oxford, MS, and Harmel Pegues (Shanta) of Batesville, MS; daughters, Brenda Pegues of Athens, GA and Marilyn Pegues of Oxford, MS; brothers, Willie C.
