Ida Mae Vaughn Southern, a beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother, was born February 8, 1950, to the late McKinley and Ollie Vaughn. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Springfield MB Church in Abbeville, MS. She was a devoted choir member for many years.
Ida received her education at Central High School and graduated with the class of 1969. She was united in holy matrimony to Eddie Frank Southern on June 6, 1970, and to this union three children were born.
Ida loved going to sporting events, spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She loved shopping with her sisters, doing crossword puzzles during down time, and attending church faithfully until her health failed.
On Friday, February 27, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, Ida peacefully closed her eyes and went home to be with the Lord.
Ida is survived by her husband: Eddie Frank Southern, Abbeville, MS; her children: Eddie (Rochelle) Southern, Abbeville, MS; Stephanie (Andrew) Reynolds, Oxford, MS; and Derrick Southern, Abbeville, MS; Six grandchildren who adore her: Dequrius, Tequrius, Gabrielle, Jalen, Jaida, and Derrius; One great grandchild: Carleigh; Three sisters: Deloris Vaughn, and Patrece Vaughn both of Abbeville, MS and Diane (John) Harden of Atlanta, GA; Four brothers: Lawrence (Denise) Vaughn, Hazlehurst, MS, Steve Vaughn, Oxford, MS, Toney (Teresa) Vaughn, Nashville, TN and Curtis (Minnie) Miller, Oxford, MS; A special bonus daughter: Tiffany Southern, a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in -law, Special friends: Christine Dixon Fox, Jean Dennis, Minnie Cooper, Rosie Ward, Martha Delbridge, and Faristene Webb.
Ida is preceded in death by her parents: McKinley and Ollie Vaughn; her sister: Joyce Vaughn; brothers: Robert “Bobby” Vaughn, and Larry Vaughn.
