James Tallie Obituary

James Edward Tallie affectionately known as "Cookie," was born on May 10, 1973, to Edna Kaye Tallie and the late Louis Edward Chatman, in Oxford, Mississippi. James grew up in church. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Rock Hill MB Church in Oxford, MS.

James received his formal education in the Lafayette County School District and the Water Valley School District. He was a hard working man, one who took pride in providing for his family. Over the years, he was employed with Water Valley Poultry, Ashley Furniture, Independent Furniture, and most recently, Cooper Tire, where he worked diligently and faithfully until failing health no longer allowed.

James loved good food, being outside and working on cars. He also loved to travel, enjoying the freedom of seeing new places and making lasting memories. He was a SHARP DRESSER, who carried himself with style and confidence. However, his best times were the times that he spent with those he loved. He enjoyed sharing laughs, stories and of course, meals.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026. at Diverscare in Batesville, MS, James Tallie transitioned peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his mother: Edna Phillips of Oxford MS;  his sister: Hope Phillips of Tupelo MS; his daughters: Ashley Cosey of Detroit MI, Katavia Sisk of Oxford MS and Montiyana Sisk of Chattanooga TN; his beloved grandson: Kaiden Sisk of Chattanooga TN; and nephews: Kamari and Jaiden Wilson of Tupelo MS: his caregivers: Robert (Nancy) Chatman and Robert Chatman, Jr., all of  Oxford MS. James is also lovingly remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and, close friends, Toinetta Sisk and Kenyatta Cosey.

James is preceded in death by his grandparents: Inese Tallie, Walter Tallie, Reannie Chatman and Jessie Chatman; his stepfather: James Murney; cousins: Angel and Angie Chatman and several aunts and uncles.
