James Henry Wright, son of the late Johnny and Levora Cunningham Wright, was born August 29, 1933, in Lee County of Mississippi and was affectionately known as “Boo”.
James confessed a hope in Christ at a requisite age and joined Center Hill (Second Baptist M.B. Church in Verona, MS) and actively served. He later relocated to Memphis, TN and joined the Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member until his transition on June 8, 2022 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis TN.
James served as a Deacon at Pentecostal MB Church and was an active member of the Jerusalem Male Chorus. In 1962, he united on matrimony to Alice Hickombottom, and they shared 59 wonderful years together. They were faithfully committed to each other, honoring their vows, “Until death do us part.”
James had three essentials in life, God, family and education. Throughout his life, he demonstrated an unsurpassed commitment to each. He loved bowling, fishing and keeping his lawn manicured.
He was a graduate of Mary C. Wade High School in Verona, MS. He received a BS degree from Mississippi Industrial College and he served as an active alumnus. He was an educator in the Tate County School District for more than 30 years before retiring to enjoy his time with his wife and his passion for fishing.
James leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Alice Hickombottom Wright; nephew/son: Jessie Shell, and nephews: James Shell and Forrest (Theresa) Wright; and a host of cousins, Christian family and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents: Johnny and Levora Wright; his sister: Odessa Shell; his brother: Johnny Wright, and his stepmother: Rennie Wright.
