Mr. Jerry Wayne Brassell, son of the late Norris and Maelean Tatum Brassell, was born in Oxford, Mississippi on April 14, 1968. Jerry's mother passed away when he was a young child and he was raised by his aunt, Nina Tatum. Jerry accepted Christ at an early age and joined South Hopewell MB Church in Taylor, Mississippi and as an adult, he rededicated his life to Christ.
Jerry received his formal education in the Lafayette County School District where he graduated. He was united in matrimony to Julie Tyson. Jerry became an entrepreneur and founded Brassell Construction. Jerry had a natural gift for farming. He enjoyed cows, chickens, and gardening, with a special touch in putting up metal buildings and roofing. Jerry also enjoyed a relaxing game of pool.
Due to illness, Jerry became unable to perform the duties and chores that he so much loved, so he had to depart with some of his farm animals. After a brief, hard battle with his health, the Lord saw fit to remove him from the suffering of this life, and on Monday, February 10, 2025, Jerry went made a peaceful transition. He was surrounded by his loving children and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife: Julie Brassell of Oxford MS; his aunt: Nina Tatum who raised him, of Oxford MS; six sons: Darius (Tina) Palmer of Knoxville TN, Arthur Wells, Jerry Brassell, Jr., Jeremy Brassell and Montavis Brassell, all of Oxford MS; and Tramel Jackson of Batesville MS; three daughters: Jasmine (Leshaun) Carothers and Ayanna Brassell both of Oxford MS; and Shatysia Sharkey of Destin FL; two bonus daughters: Kyarron and Portia Robinson of Water Valley MS; six brothers: Willie (Mary) Brassell and Norris Brassell, Jr., both of Oxford MS, Terry (Bettie) Brassell of Taylor MS, Michael McGlarn of Knoxville TN, James (Janice) Tatum of Coffeeville MS and Thomas Brassell of Jackson MS; five sisters: Patricia (Curtis) Pegues of Batesville MS, Sharon (Gary) Brown of Abbeville MS, LaWanda Brassell, Eutha Brassell and Denise (Lee) Frieson, all of Oxford MS; 29 grandchildren; one great grandchild: Ja'Quez Dyor Daniels; three very special friends: Stanley Carothers, Albert Lee Willingham and Chelle Robinson.
