Mr. Jerry O’Neal Burt, son of Malcolm and Mary Alice Porter Burt, was born on August 1, 1954, in Oxford, Mississippi. He departed this life June 30, 2025 in Oxford, Mississippi.
Jerry grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School in 1972. He accepted Christ at an early age at East Providence MB Church. Jerry enjoyed watching sports, especially the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles, playing basketball and he loved fishing. Following graduation from high school, he entered the military, United States Army and served his time. Jerry moved to Winter Garden, Florida and worked for Disney World for over 20 years. After years of residing in Florida, he moved back home to Oxford. He began working at ATO fraternity house at the University of Mississippi until his health declined.
Jerry never met a stranger; he talked to anyone and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed the ladies, drinking and gambling. He believed in always keeping it real. He will be lovingly missed by all who knew him and particularly by his family.
He is survived by his children: Dana Thompson, Katreena (Robert) Brown and Kareem Thompson, Sr. of Oxford; April McMillian of Clarksville, TN; Shanta McMillian of Atlanta, GA; and Javae Burt of Winter Garden, Florida; three brothers; Cornelius Burt of Winter Garden, Florida; Danny (Martha) Burt of Memphis, TN and Eric Burt of Oxford, MS; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson and a special nephew, Antonio Morgan aka “Montana.”. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents: Malcolm and Mary Porter Burt; his sister, Betty Jo Burt Campbell and two brothers: Gregory Burt and Michael Burt.
