Jessie Ervin Jones, son of the late Curtis "Bilbo" and Edna Mathis Jones, was born in Oxford, Mississippi on August 26, 1956. Jessie received his education in the Oxford School District where he graduated with the Class of 1974. Raised in a Christian home, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Jessie, affectionately known as "Big Bub," enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 11 years. Upon his return from the military, he joined the workforce. He was employed with the University of Mississippi and Walmart Corporation as a custodian.
Jessie had a love for life and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also took great pride in grilling and watching his favorite NFL team, the New England Patriots. As much as he loved the Patriots and as much as he was loved by his family and friends, God loved him more and needed him to come home and rest. On Saturday, April 18, 2026, with loved ones by his side, Jessie "Big Bub" Ervin Jones, made a peaceful transition from the Regional One Medical Center (The MED) to his heavenly home.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories. two sons: Rashad Quarles of Coldwater MS and Derrick Jones of Oxford MS; grandsons: ShaQuavious Quarles and Kyren Quarles of Fort Worth TX and Kingston Quarles of Coldwateer MS; granddaughters: Olivia Quarles and London Quarles both of Coldwater MS; three sisters: Mattie (Frank) Bruton of Norfork VA, Helen (Darryl Pettis and Bernice Pettis both of Oxford MS; two brothers: Curtis Jones and Purnell Jones both of Oxford MS; a special nephew who was raised with him as a brother: James (Phyllis) Jones of Oxford MS and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jessie was preceded in death by his parents: Curtis "Bilbo" and Edna Mathis Jones; siblings: Eddie and Freddie Jones, James Jones, Edna J Parker, Lee R. Jones and Alonzo Jones.
